The American Society for Quality (ASQ) is the world’s leading authority on quality. With more than 75,000 individual and organizational members in 150 countries, this professional association advances learning, quality improvement, and knowledge exchange to improve business results, and to create better workplaces and communities worldwide.
Quality Progress (QP), ASQ’s flagship publication, is a monthly magazine read by more people than any other magazine on quality (approximately 80,000). It features in-depth articles describing the application of innovative methods. Topics include knowledge management, process improvement and organizational behavior. It also covers trends such as Six Sigma and lean.
Each December, QP publishes the results of ASQ’s annual salary survey, a comprehensive overview of the state of compensation in all industries that incorporate quality processes. The results typically absorb the equivalent pages of 2-3 feature articles and follow a specific editorial theme. In 2020, that theme was determined by QP’s Art Director, Olivia Roszkowska, who created an analogy between quality processes and the ancient Golden Ratio. The concept is best described by her, as it was pitched to ASQ’s team:
“This concept is based on the theory of the Golden Ratio, whose prime objective is to bring forth the real scientific beauty of perfect objects in the universe and in nature. When applied to the magazine design, it creates an organic, balanced, and aesthetically pleasing composition. In the context of the survey, it can be perceived as a pursuit of balance and perfection by quality professionals, even in turbulent and uncertain times. It signifies stability, equilibrium and the constant endeavor to achieve excellence.”
